Watching Paint Dry

Posted on: July 25th, 2012 by carolyn

Last night, after a long day, we were all hanging out in the family room watching TLC’s What Not To Wear.  As we watched commercial after commercial for Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, it became very clear why the show High Stakes Sweepers was not picked up as a series.  (You may remember I was part of the Authentic Entertainment show pilot last summer.)  Sweepers and contestors are just not weird enough.

Honey Boo Boo is a little girl who is a break out personality from the show Toddlers in Tiaras. They are now running a series following her, her entire family and all their crazy adventures. Compared to her, watching us attempt to win big is like watching paint dry!

I would rather watch real people having great things happen to them any day!

Well you have a point — but what about those shows where people talked about how they won the lottery? I suppose the thrill in that was seeing tons of things that they bought (or how they lost all their money by spending it too fast and unwisely).

You may remember I could see the problem with the show before they even began filming and blogged about it (You Can’t Win on Cue). I also think the lottery show works because many people dream of winning the lottery and yes, seeing the before and after is captured easier.

Well look on the bright side by TLC see not picking up your sweeper show that’s thousands maybe even tens of thousands less rival sweepers to worry about it is hard enough has it is.

Last year companies in the United States spent $3,000,000,000 running sweepstakes. A show on TLC wouldn’t make it any harder or easier to win. The hobby is evolving and changing. To keep winning entrants have to shift their entry methods to keep on winning. GOOD LUCK!

The reality shows are getting worse. I saw the commercials too for Honey Boo Boo. I won’t be watching the show as it just doesn’t seem interesting to me. I would watch ‘High Stakes Sweepers’ on a regular basis as I like seeing good things happen to good people & the show was ‘inspiring to contestors’. But then, I do like Extreme Couponing which I know is completely fake & staged and I liked Cheapskates even though some of their money saving ideas were so out of my realm. It was entertaining to see how far people will go. I don’t see an issue about showing people after they win a big prize & all the little prizes. It is interesting to me. I don’t need to see the people ‘actually’ win with a letter or phone call.

  5. I would rather watch the show high stakes winner than most of the reality shows that are on tv.
