Sudsy & Soft — WIN from Tropical Traditions

Posted on: June 13th, 2011 by carolyn

My alter ego, the Lucky Yogini is at it again. I have another Tropical Traditions (@TropTraditions) Product Review & Giveaway!

It’s been a long while since I did a review and giveaway of the Tropical Traditions organic coconut oil products (September 26, 2010!), so I thought it was high time.  This time I checked out their body products: Moisturizing Lotion in Citrus and Coconut Oil Soap in three “flavours”: Lavender, Tea Tree and Unscented.

Now it’s your turn to get sudsy and soft by winning a set for yourself! Head over to Lucky Yogini and get winning!!  (The contest is open to all residents of Canada and the U.S., and runs until 11:59pm on Monday June 27th.)

Win a Cell Ranger STIX!

Posted on: December 16th, 2010 by carolyn

UPDATE: The winner was Lilac from Lethbridge, AB. CONGRATULATIONS!

Disclaimer: The Repeater Store provided me with a free sample of one of their products to review, and I was under no obligation to review it if I so chose. Nor was I under any obligation to write a positive review or sponsor a giveaway in return for the free product.

I love testing new products that make my life better and/or easier.  One of life’s minor annoyances is to find one’s self driving along, chatting on the Bluetooth, and realizing mid-sentence that your call had dropped because you came to that dip in the road.  It’s as if you sink below the satellite signal.  I think it’s akin to a fighter jet flying below the radar.  What’s up with that?!  The cellphone companies all boast they have the most coverage, the strongest network, etc. “Can you hear me now?” So, how can I be driving along in a very populated area and lose my call?!

Well, Cell Ranger came up with a solution to this problem.  You plug their cell-booster into your cigarette lighter (Are those things really used to light cigarettes any more?), put the antenna on the trunk or roof of your car and no more dropped calls.  The booster amplified my signal enough, so when I did hit the dip in the road, I was still happily chatting away.  YEAH!

While testing this product and reading up on the other benefits of using a cell booster I discovered uses I hadn’t even though of.  You can use it in your office.  Are you surrounded by concrete?  I remember working in one office where I had to stand by the window in a particular spot, plus have my entire body cocked at a certain angle to catch the signal.  You practically had to be a contortionist to make a call!  If I moved an inch, the call was lost.  You can also use it on your boat.  I don’t have a boat, but I think it’s a great idea as your cellphone makes a good back-up in an emergency.  (I assume the VHF radio would be used first.)

You can view a good demonstration video of the Cell Ranger STIX on the Cell Ranger website.

Win a Bracelet-Mate!

Posted on: December 7th, 2010 by carolyn

UPDATE: The winner was Tanya from Cobalt, ON. CONGRATULATIONS!

Disclaimer: Canale Originals provided me with a free sample of their product to review, and I was under no obligation to review it if I so chose. Nor was I under any obligation to write a positive review or sponsor a giveaway in return for the free product.

As I head off to yoga everyday (see my alter ego the Lucky Yogini) I never know what to do with my cellphone or driver’s licence since I don’t want to lug my purse with me. When I saw the Bracelet-Mate, by Canale Originals,  I thought it might be the solution to my problem.  I could take it to the studio and when I use my purse I could just toss the Bracelet-Mate inside.

The Bracelet-Mate and Bracelet Plus — a chic, elegant and playful new way to carry your essentials in a ‘hands-free’ manner for today’s fast-paced, active lifestyles.

Each Bracelet-Mate and Bracelet Plus is beautifully hand-beaded. Besides the numerous design options available, what makes them truly unique is that the bracelet is attached to a mini wrist wallet capable of carrying your ID, credit cards, currency, lipstick and key. When worn, the wallet sits discreetly on the inside of your wrist, and can be worn on either wrist; you always know where your belongings are!

Bracelet-Mate and Bracelet Plus are designed with the finest leathers, suedes and beautiful fabrics. Beads range from 14K gold lined to specialty exotics and hand painted clay.

Each Bracelet-Mate and Bracelet Plus is hand-crafted with the strongest jewelers elastic to ensure it’s regular shape each time.

I was so excited when it arrived.  It fit perfectly!

To my dismay, I discovered my driver’s licence and cellphone were too big for the purse.

The purse wasn’t going to work for my intended purpose.  Thankfully, the holidays are around the corner and it’s going to make a fantastic gift for my sister.  (I am pretty sure she doesn’t read this blog!)

Buy your own Bracelet-Mate and/or holiday gifts here.

Win a Copy Birds of a Feather

Posted on: December 2nd, 2010 by carolyn

UPDATE: The winner was Rhonda from Dunrobin, ON. CONGRATULATIONS!

Disclaimer: Author Fred Ephraim provided me with a free sample of his book to review, and I was under no obligation to review it if I so chose. Nor was I under any obligation to write a positive review or sponsor a giveaway in return for the free product.

Albert Lawrence, almost to the Fifth Avenue manner born is now its concierge that until the Russian horde cloaked in royalty re-vitalizes his disrupted lineage. Born to no advantage save good health, Albert Lawrence tells the story of his rise, then a precipitous and crashing fall from Fifth Avenue penthouse grace, as he returns home from Sing Sing Prison and lands a doorman’s job at his former home where his new life is a shell of its former self. But all will soon be forgiven after the Russians upset the heretofore staid and exclusive atmosphere of this once peaceful Fifth Avenue co-op.

If you are heading off on winter vacation and are looking for a light read, this isn’t it.  Birds of a Feather is a very powerful book.  The characters are complex, their stories entwined with no easy answers.  Much like real life, which is why the story is so gripping.  Unlike a “beach novel” which, similar to peanuts, once you start you can’t stop, I found I could only read a chapter at a time.  I had to let the story swirl around my brain so I could absorb all the intricacies of what I had just read.  Like a good movie, the imagery stayed with me throughout the day.  This would be a perfect book for a book club so you could discuss all the nuances of the novel.

If you have a reader on your Christmas list who likes books that are just slightly off the beaten path, then Birds of a Feather would be a much appreciated gift.  You can buy all of Fred Ephraim’s books here: Buy The Books.

Win a copy of Sewing a Friendship!

Posted on: November 25th, 2010 by carolyn

UPDATE: The winner was Theresa from Fairport, NY. CONGRATULATIONS!

Disclaimer: Author Natalie Tinti provided me with a free sample of her book to review, and I was under no obligation to review it if I so chose. Nor was I under any obligation to write a positive review or sponsor a giveaway in return for the free product.

I thought Sewing a Friendship may be a fun book to review and giveaway before the holidays because as a mom, I know parents are always looking for something new and different to give our children as gifts.  What is amazing about this book is the author and illustrator, Natalie Tinti, is only 10 years old!

Since the book was for children, written by a child, it only made sense to me to let a child review the book.  I enlisted the help of our daughter Nicole.

She decided to take notes while reading.  When I asked her what she was writing (and I wish I had written down her quote exactly) she said, “I didn’t say the book was terrible, or anything.”  She followed her statement up with, “I loved it!”

Nicole’s Review
(WARNING: spoiler alert!)

I like the illustrations.  Also the characters in the story.  I like them too.  Love the name of the school.  Sokron has a big bed.  They go to a fashion show.  They can’t find their Grandma’s room.  Very colourful.  Cool door handles.  I think Dragon the dog is cute.  Dog is secret agent.

Natalie also has a SPECIAL HOLIDAY OFFER for my readers: Buy any 2 items and receive Free Christmas Cards (set of 10 cards)!
