$5 a Day - Win Tickets!!

Contesting Add comments

There is a new film out of interest to contestors; $5 a Day.

In one of the most charming and heartfelt performances of his career, Christopher Walken a free-spirited hustler named Nat who claims to the world that he can live on five dollars a day. His ramshackle apartment is a veritable warehouse of freebies, coupons and contest prizes, not the least of which is bubblegum pink and white Sweet’n’Low car that he won free use of for a year. (Nat has mastered the art of speed for radio contests!)

None of this bounty has helped him repair his fractured relationship with his son Flynn (Alessandro Nivola), who has not spoken to his father in years because of a lifetime’s worth of resentment’s and bitterness. When Flynn discovers that his father might be terminally ill, the father and son reconcile briefly in order for Flynn to drive his father to New Mexico for an experimental treatment—and so begins one of the craziest road trips in recent cinema.

The movie is being launched at the 2008 Toronto International Film Festival and they have donated a set of tickets as a prize!! So, if you live in the GTA, and wish to see the film, send an email to enterme@contestqueen.com with $5 a Day in the subject line, with your full name and address before Midnight tonight (Friday September 5th), to be entered to win the tickets for tomorrow night (Saturday September 6th @ 6:45pm @ the Scotiabank Theatre, 259 Richmond St. W.). Neat sounding movie. Loved him in Hairspray. :O)
Betcha this is one of those independent/art house movies that never really hit the mass theatre market, but we will eventually be able to buy it from on line sources, i.e. Chapters, Amazon….

FROM KAY OUR TICKET WINNER - her review of the movie:

I wanted to thank you very much for the tickets. John, my hubby and I enjoyed the movie very much - after a mix up of where the tickets were, we were afraid we might not get in. However our contact at the TIFF came to the rescue. We got in just as the movie started and were delighted to find that we had the best seats in the house - surrounded by the producers & editor of the movie. It was fun afterwards to hear the directors and producers speak during the Q&A.

The movie was very good - funny, poignant and sad at the same time. Christopher Walken was great, as was Sharon Stone and the other case members. The sweet and lo’ car was funny and they had to travel across the US from Philadelphia to New Mexico - on $5.00 day! Christopher Walken - the Dad had all sorts of schemes and scams - from staying in vacant homes for rent to ordering brunch under the assumed names of guests at motels - while hitting every IHOP and gas station along the way for freebies. I laughed when he was on the radio contesting - he had 3 phones going at one time and had various aliases’ to win tickets. Along the way, the son and Dad reconnected and the son, Flynn, gets his one true love back and it ends bitter sweet.

Hope it does get to general release.
    Thanks Carolyn & thanks TIFF!

It probably won’t play in Troll County. But thanks for letting me know this movie is out there for future viewing. Walken rocks!
