At first glance the headline may not seem to be true. I ran a contest last week and Kay won tickets to see $5 a Day from the TIFF. I feel the headline is true because this is, what I believe, to be what a real blog contest is; post a prize, ask for comments, draw a winner. I am keeping my first one very simple. Simple is good.
Who can enter? Anyone.
How does one enter? By submitting a comment to this blog post. No comment will be judged, so essays are not required. Have fun as that is what this hobby is all about! One entry per person please.
When does it end? The contest closes at 11:59pm Eastern Time on Friday September 19th.
The prize? An autographed copy of my book, You Can’t Win If You Don’t Enter. The winner will have their choice of either the American or Canadian edition.
I will choose the winner the same way I do for all my prize draws. I will use random number generating software to select an entrant.
GOOD LUCK!!

Hello. I have been a contest enthusiest since I was 12 years old and won my first prize,a coveted ‘ LP’.That’s a recording for all you younger contesters out there. I am so very sorry to see snail mails go by the wayside ,since they are my first love.Internet is harder to win because everyone does it,so much easier to enter contests from home. My best win so far has been my shiny red new beetle.I do love to win those trips, though.I was born with a passport in my hand.I would like to know everyone elses BIG WIN!
September 12th, 2008 at 9:22 am
Hey !
This is pretty cool ! Wish I could win this book !
I would read it than I think I would also do a sweepstakes on my site and give this book as the prize.
This way, I could share knowledge about sweepstakes.
What do you think ?
Good luck to me !

Enjoyed reading your book and felt it was very well written. Have incorporated a few tips into my daily routine. Who says you can’t teach an old dog new tricks?
September 12th, 2008 at 10:23 am

September 12th, 2008 at 10:45 am

Hail, Hail to the Queen!
May I be in your court? Your Majesty
Family and friends may giggle, but
they aren’t winning the stuff, We are!
September 12th, 2008 at 10:46 am
My wife and I just got back from the Sweepstakes convention in San Antonio Texas. We had a great time! What a beautiful city! PS - My biggest win has been a 42 inch HDTV. Gotta love that!
September 12th, 2008 at 10:52 am
Sweeping on-line for almost 1 year now and I am addicted! Haven’t won any big prizes….yet. Have won a few hundred dollars worth of merchandise(food, hats, gift cards).

Sweepstakes are good for your mine. Its make you alert
and keeps your mine working, when you get older.
September 12th, 2008 at 11:01 am
I would love this so much.
September 12th, 2008 at 11:01 am
Sweepstakes are great fun! I have not read the book but sounds like a great read. Darrell
September 12th, 2008 at 11:18 am
I love to sweepstake however I find it a little difficult because I move every six months as I am a snowbird but I try to read the rules estimate where I will be for the drawings. What I don’t know will not hurt me, so I keep trying.
September 12th, 2008 at 11:19 am
I want to win.
September 12th, 2008 at 11:24 am
Thanks for having this contest. I really appreciate it.
September 12th, 2008 at 11:25 am
People ask me how I win so many sweepstakes. I tell them that I enter so many sweepstakes. Ha Ha! If they tell me, “I never win anything.”, I ask them how many have they entered? Usually, it’s, “Oh, I entered a sweeps back in 1982, I think.” Well, duh, you can’t win if you don’t enter. The title of the book says it all.
September 12th, 2008 at 11:27 am
I also just finished reading your book and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Winning one would be great as I can gift it another sweeper.
I love all the tips you had in the book.
This is very nice of you! Thanks for the chance!
September 12th, 2008 at 11:40 am
Entering sweepstakes is fun and becoming an addiction.
HELP!!
September 12th, 2008 at 11:42 am
Entering is the easy part. You still have to have your name pulled out of the hat. To win a prize is a numbers game. to win a big prize is LUCK.
September 12th, 2008 at 11:42 am
I have been sweeping for several years-it’s become an addiction for me. Anyway, congrats on your first give away. Sounds like just what I need.
September 12th, 2008 at 11:47 am
Sweeping is a fun hobby. What a rush when you eventually win no matter how small the prize.
September 12th, 2008 at 12:00 pm
Harder to win anywhere with more amd more sweepers appearing
September 12th, 2008 at 12:07 pm
WOW ! I think it is so cool that not only is sweeping a great hobby, but you have taken it to a new level by writing a book to help others. Thanks.
September 12th, 2008 at 12:10 pm
I’d love to read your book and share it with my husband. When the kids go to sleep, I hit the computer. He doesn’t complain about it (much)and I tell him he’ll be grateful one day when we go on a free family vacation or his new pick-up is sitting in the driveway. Positive energy!
September 12th, 2008 at 12:38 pm
I love to enter contest so that I can win things for my family. I enjoy checking the mail to see what surprises the were delivered inside.
September 12th, 2008 at 12:42 pm
What can I say about sweeping? It has now become my life’s work!! I throughly enjoyed helping Carolyn Americanize and talk her into producing it after reading the Canadian version. I, too, will share the wealth of knowlege of the book with other sweepers in seminars and raffling them off!!
Kudos to Carolyn for her devotion to our hobby and always looking forward to hooking up with her and Craig!!
September 12th, 2008 at 12:42 pm
This is the most profitable hobby I have. I have more fun — especially winning stuff and then sharing my wealth with others. It’s win/ win…. and I can’t get enough of it. I love to read others good fortunes too.
September 12th, 2008 at 12:44 pm
This is a practical prize. I would love to win this and read all the info I can get.
September 12th, 2008 at 12:49 pm
Good luck on your book and blog!
September 12th, 2008 at 1:03 pm
isn’t life fun
September 12th, 2008 at 1:05 pm
I enjoy entering sweepstakes as a hobby as it is fun to dream of “what if?” It’s fun to imagine driving the beautiful car, living in the georgous house, visiting an exotic location, etc. I’ll keep entering and picturing myself winning and maybe someday soon, my “big win” will come along. In the meantime, winning small prizes keeps me encouraged.
September 12th, 2008 at 1:11 pm
My wife enters sweepsakes for me as I don’t type well. If I win the book, she’ll be really excited about reading it as she really enjoys entering sweeps (for both of us).
September 12th, 2008 at 1:14 pm
I’d like to say “Congrats” on your book. If I don’t win it, is it available on the market? After retirement, sweeping has become a perfect hobby. Oh and when those prizes start showing up, it makes it all worthwhile. Still waiting to be notified of my car/truck/cash win (smiles). Looking forward to reading your book.
September 12th, 2008 at 1:15 pm
What a great prize, Carolyn. As sweepers we all know there are going to be dry times - reading your book is just what one should do to get back in the WINNING frame of mind!
September 12th, 2008 at 1:23 pm
I would love a copy of your book, and have been looking forward to reading it ever since I read Sandra Grauschopf’s review. I love sweeping, it gives me hope every day that something unexpected and wonderful may happen… in a lot of ways that is better than the prizes. Not that I mind the prizes…
September 12th, 2008 at 1:25 pm
This is a great prize. Thanks!
September 12th, 2008 at 1:46 pm
I would love to win this book! I love to enter sweepstakes and I know I could learn a lot from it!
September 12th, 2008 at 1:46 pm

September 12th, 2008 at 1:51 pm
Hi…good luck everyone.
September 12th, 2008 at 1:55 pm
Well, I’m brand new in this, but I have always been the lucky one in the family, since I was little always wining little raffles, or last years tickets to a concert which I only entered once! So here I am willing to learn more from the experts, and having a lot of fun!
September 12th, 2008 at 2:01 pm
I hope I win this - I need it!
September 12th, 2008 at 2:08 pm
Sounds like something we need!
September 12th, 2008 at 2:14 pm
luck is fickle but i’m glad it exists
September 12th, 2008 at 2:15 pm
This part is new to me. I love entering contests and have won a few. I would love to get tips from the pro on winning.I would really love to win some money because I cannot work and my husbands place of work went out of business in August and money is tight.
I wish everyone good luck! I would love to read your book. Have a great day and May God Bless!
September 12th, 2008 at 2:35 pm
I started to enter contests and sweepstakes 3 months ago. I can’t be as active I was so I have taken up the sweepsatkes hobby. I haven’t won much so far (movie tickets, toothpaste, & a health bar) but I keep trying. I’m sure that your book would be a great help to me or any other person who enters sweepstakes.
September 12th, 2008 at 2:46 pm
I would love to read another person’s perspective. I’m in a slump right now as well. Thanks for the contest!
September 12th, 2008 at 2:46 pm
I’ve always loved entering things! People have made fun of me because I am always confident I will win. I gave up on scratch-off tickets because it cost too much. Now I am just starting to build a house and appliances are NOT included in the budget! Okay, I’ll just see if I can win me some. I had found around 10 different sweeps I was entering daily and then my son said there must be a website. Well, lo and behold, I found Mr. Sweepy! I haven’t won any appliances yet, or much of anything else, but I’m sure I will. And then I want to take my granddaughter on a nice trip and I could certainly use a new car, money is always wonderful . . . .
September 12th, 2008 at 2:50 pm
I can’t wait to read your book. Heard it’s a great book.
September 12th, 2008 at 2:56 pm
What a wonderful hobby this is! Surprise after surprise.
September 12th, 2008 at 3:01 pm

September 12th, 2008 at 3:21 pm
I have just started contesting this summer, so I have not had an opportunity to win anything yet. I am trying to contest for 15 minutes a day. I am interested in reading your book sometime.

September 12th, 2008 at 3:47 pm
I would love to win your book because due to the lack of winning, my motivation has slipped away.
September 12th, 2008 at 3:56 pm
I don’t usually enter anything that requires me to add to a blog, but I’m making an exception. I’d love the book.
September 12th, 2008 at 3:58 pm
I could really, really use your book. Hit a dry spell…good luck everyone!
September 12th, 2008 at 4:17 pm

September 12th, 2008 at 4:44 pm
I have been a sweeper for 40 years and love each and every minute of it! I have won many, many prizes and always look forward to the next. I especially love it when my grandchildren get a surprise win! Would love to win your book.

This would be a nice win for me to have your book!
September 12th, 2008 at 5:00 pm
I have been sweeping for close to 30 yrs. and love Mr. Sweepy’s site!!! I would love to win your book! When we did snailmail - I won an 18 day trip to the Orient(1982). I haven’t won anything very big since, But I keep hoping and entering. If nothing else, it keeps my fingers nimble and my mind more alert.
Thank you for this opportunity!!!
September 12th, 2008 at 5:02 pm
I have been entering contests for about a year and a half now and its so exciting. I have one a few and its great, i would really love to win a copy of your book and read some of your techniques to winning. Denise
September 12th, 2008 at 5:04 pm
If I win this book, it will probably be the best thing I would ever win. I need all the help I can get. I’ve been entering sweeps online for about 4 or 5 years now. I won a couple music downloads, but I don’t download music. I won some clipart that I found out fast why they had to GIVE it away. I won a $10 Lowe’s card that they never sent me. I won a book for my cats. 20 bags of chips from a restaurant we never go to. I recently won a $25 gift card and $100 cash, but I haven’t seen them yet. I hope I get them. It can get VERY discouraging at times, to put forth so much time and effort for so little return, but I just keep trying. I enter dozens of sweeps every day and keep hoping that I’ll win that one special big one. Congrats to everyone’s wins.
September 12th, 2008 at 5:11 pm
Thank you for the opportunity. Good Luck all!
September 12th, 2008 at 5:12 pm
I would love to win this book I have been entering sweepstakes on line, by mail, texting and phone in for about 10 years It used to be very good. I was able to win enough for all my kids and grand kids xmas and birthday presents but it seems to have dried up and I don’t know why It seems to be a long time between wins and no more biggies anymore Maybe this book would help
Thanks for a great giveaway

I love sweeping. I’ve been doing it regularly for 5 years and had done it on and off for a few years before that. I’ve won a lot of small things and a few big things and enjoy it so much. Love your web site and your books.
September 12th, 2008 at 5:28 pm
So this is what a blog sweepstakes is! I have been doing snail mails for years but this is my first blog entry. I sure miss the snail mails but I guess it’s time to jump into the future of sweepstaking and give it a try. Loved seeing you at the Texas convention and I look forward to seeing you at the Hershey mini convention.
September 12th, 2008 at 5:37 pm
I love entering sweeps so this book sounds like a fun read. Count me in. Thanks
September 12th, 2008 at 5:41 pm
I’ve been sweeping seriously for just under 2 years and have been fortunate enough to a number of small prizes and a handful of grand prizes. I don’t know too many folks personally that do this for a hobby, so I would love to win your book to get another’s perspective on creating a winning strategy.
September 12th, 2008 at 5:57 pm
Would love to read this book
September 12th, 2008 at 6:12 pm
I love sweeping. It relieves a lot of stress from day to day. Would love to win this book. I sure could use some new tips.
September 12th, 2008 at 6:13 pm
I love to sweep. Have been doing it since I was a young adult by snail mail. Now with the internet, I enter at least 50 a day and have won lots of little prizes. A great hobby. Would love to have your book.
September 12th, 2008 at 6:21 pm
I want to win.
September 12th, 2008 at 6:36 pm
I loved listening to you on the radio when you were talking to Mr. Creepy, I mean Sweepy ha ha. I probably wont win your book because of that comment but I DID enjoy listening to what YOU had to say about sweeps. I learned quite a bit from you and would love to know more.
September 12th, 2008 at 6:46 pm
I bought a copy of this book, but need another because mine is loaned out constantly!
September 12th, 2008 at 6:52 pm
i can’t wait to get the book
September 12th, 2008 at 7:16 pm
I’d like to win your sweeps and get to read your book. I don’t see how one could get better in entering sweeps tho. everyone does the same thing. I’d still would like to know if being old limits one’s chances? Thanks.
September 12th, 2008 at 7:16 pm
I am a very new sweeper and have won only a few small prizes. I would love the book to give me some insight to statagies to use to win the “BIG ONE”!
September 12th, 2008 at 7:18 pm
I love sweeping. My biggest win was from Cheer Tru Fit Detergent two years ago. I won A trip to NYC worth $10,000. After some negotiating with the sweep administer and Proctor and Gamble they kindly agreed to allow me to have the %$10,000 cash instead. I wasn’t playing for a prize I didn’t want, I was playing an instant win game for a $100 visa card and was automatically entered to win the trip.
September 12th, 2008 at 7:46 pm
excellent book
September 12th, 2008 at 7:54 pm
This would be a terrific prize to win!! Very interested in seeing what you have in the American addition. I have been sweepstaking for a couple years now and have won some nice prizes. Nothing big yet, but still hoping the day comes comes for that. I enjoy entering in my spare time, can turn into quite an addiction!
Good luck everyone!!
September 12th, 2008 at 8:11 pm
Sweeping can be addictive but its much safer than other addictions.
September 12th, 2008 at 8:17 pm
Thank you for offering “You Can’t Win if you Don’t Enter” for your sweepstakes. I’ve been sweeping for as long as I can remember (and that’s a LONG time) and I still get that same feeling as I did the first time I won something with each and every win the I get.
September 12th, 2008 at 8:38 pm
I have been winning since I was 8 years old…mostly in radio sweeps. I’m entering less because I don’t know how to win without drop boxes and radio call-ins. I need your book so I can begin winning again!
September 12th, 2008 at 9:13 pm
I have been sweeping since March and love it. I got my daughter started and we just got back from a trip to NY that she won. I would love to win this book because anything to do with sweeping fascinates me.
September 12th, 2008 at 9:19 pm
I am swiftly becoming addicted to sweeping!
September 12th, 2008 at 9:33 pm
Me, me, me!
September 12th, 2008 at 9:35 pm
This is a great blog. I’m glad I was referred to it. Keep up the nice work. Thank you!
September 12th, 2008 at 9:38 pm
Hi Carolyn,
I’ve been sweeping about 17 years and have some great wins under my belt, but always willing to ‘tweak’ my entering methods, and love to hear how others enter.
I met you at the Scottsdale convention and have one of your four leaf clover pendants…it sits in front of me on my desk as I enter. It’s a pretty little piece of jewelry and I feel ‘every little bit helps’. Thanks so much for offering this contest!

LOVE…Sweeping,it gives me something productive to do. The WINS just keep coming…
September 12th, 2008 at 10:30 pm
I have been entering contests since I was laid off of my job a year ago. I have them categorized on my favorites list for easier entering. So far I have won 2 drink cups and samples of toothpaste. Sure would like to win something bigger, maybe you book could help!
September 12th, 2008 at 10:33 pm
I dont read much but i’d make an exception in this case.
September 12th, 2008 at 10:36 pm
I’ve enjoyed entering sweepstakes online, but have only won three little tiny prizes - free loaf of bread, free jelly beans and a box of new cleaning products . Actually that was a pretty good prize. It would be nice to win some of the big prizes, but I enjoy just seeing most of the prizes. It’s soert of like window shopping.
September 12th, 2008 at 10:40 pm
Thanks for the opportunity!
September 12th, 2008 at 10:54 pm
This sounds like a really great book; I’d love to read it. I have been entering sweepstakes for about 3.5 years now, and have won over $17,000 in prizes. I love the sense of possibility entering sweepstakes gives me.
September 12th, 2008 at 11:00 pm
Last year I won 250,000 boxtops which is worth $25,000. It was a Boxtops for Kids contest and was sponsored by Walgeens, General Mills and Kimberly Clark. My daughter won a trip to Alaska in 2004 and took her dad and me. It was wonderful.
Just about every week I receive something in the mail from contests I have won. Anyone can do this. It just takes some time. Good Luck to everyone. Happy sweeping!!
September 12th, 2008 at 11:09 pm

September 12th, 2008 at 11:23 pm
Hi Carolyn,
COOL idea for a contest!!!
Have been contesting since the early 80’s, so am an oldie, but a goodie… ;O)))
Have seen a lot of changes in the contesting world over the years, especially the decline in snail mail contests.
Think this would be an interesting in-depth idea for a show, if you could find an expert on this subject ???
Hope to win the prize, my contesting buddy could use a nice surprise for Xmas….:O)
September 12th, 2008 at 11:24 pm
Enjoy sweeping with my Mother; I really enjoy her wins. Would love to share this book with her.
September 12th, 2008 at 11:24 pm

September 13th, 2008 at 1:08 am
You can’t win if you don’t blog! Great forum and websites. I recently won a Chanel Mascara - in this economy even such simple prizes mean a lot!
September 13th, 2008 at 1:21 am
Book looks to be informative. I’d sure like to find out.
September 13th, 2008 at 1:32 am

September 13th, 2008 at 12:55 pm
Biggest win, 3 week trip riding the Alps on a BMW cycle! Another good one, a makeover for my wife, she received a makeover out east, and got new clothes plus a $2500 gift card from Bon Ton Corporation (Younkers/Elder Beerman) I wind a lot, takes a bit of time, but I am ready for that next big one… the book on how to contest!

I have been sweeping for 1 year now. My biggest win was a set of body washes and lotions. I hoping to win a new car or a vacation, since i unfortunaltely cannot afford to buy either one. I use Mr. sweepy site and love the commraderie that is among the sweepers.
good luck to all you sweepers!!
September 13th, 2008 at 1:42 pm
My first win, way back in high school, was a stale cake, things have improved a great deal since then!
September 13th, 2008 at 1:46 pm
Would enjoy reading your Canadian Sweepstakes book. Have entered contests since I was a teen and have won many wonderful prizes along the way. It is a great hobby, now the internet is a fast and inexpensive alternate to mailing entries, think it is even better to be a contester using this new happy medium to enter.
September 13th, 2008 at 1:49 pm
I would love to read your book.
September 13th, 2008 at 1:50 pm
Hi Carolyn,
I already have a copy of your book but would LOVE to get my hands on another as I have been sharing the idea of contesting with others & would like to give it away to receive some good karma in return! Thanks for offering this contest & happy winning!
September 13th, 2008 at 1:54 pm
There was a cool documentary this year on DocZone on CBC about contesting, it was interesting to see all the different people that enter contests. I would definitely like to win this book.
September 13th, 2008 at 2:09 pm
I love to contest and nice to see so many others that enjoy it too!
September 13th, 2008 at 2:12 pm
Would love to get this book to read and learn from the master
September 13th, 2008 at 2:25 pm
my husband and i entered a couple of contests earlier this year and ended up winning a ‘family trip of a lifetime’ to ottawa for canada day…what a wonderful experience…needless to say we have been entering contests since… i have to say though, people look at me strangely when i tell them we enter contests and my response to them is the same as the title of your book “you can’t win if you don’t enter”
September 13th, 2008 at 2:32 pm
Contesting has been the Greatest Theraphy going. I plug in my music & go searching.
The greatest HIGH is a win no matter how big or small.
My best win was a Toby Keith contest I won for my Birthday last year. Talk about a high meeting & greeting that boy.I put away my winnings for xmas gifts so I have to keep tight liped.
I loved reading you’re book. A signed copy would be a blast. Thanks again
September 13th, 2008 at 2:36 pm
My grandmother was a refunder and a sweeper. She won many cool prizes back in the day. I only began sweeping about 6 months ago, but I find that it makes me feel connected somehow to my Nana. She’s gone 25 years now but I feel her with me when I sweep.
September 13th, 2008 at 2:44 pm
My first prize was a hot air ballon ride - what fun. Since then I’ve been hooked and would love to win the book to get some new ideas.
September 13th, 2008 at 2:50 pm
Awesome. I started entering sweepstakes just last year and won about 1000 dollars worth of stuff. Its been a lot of little things but none the less I have enjoyed them. I’m waiting for the day I hit it big, but until then the nice small prizes keep my happy hehe and enjoying my hobby. Cool blog btw.
September 13th, 2008 at 2:52 pm
I look forward to reading your book!
September 13th, 2008 at 3:01 pm
I’m new to this but I love entering contests - Going to bed every night hopeful that tomorrow will bring me something nice! I’d love to read your book.
September 13th, 2008 at 3:03 pm
For about a year I have been entering contests. This seems like a very informative book!
September 13th, 2008 at 3:24 pm
Everyday, I try to do something to enter more efficiently. I have several programs I use as “tools of the hobby” that make problem sweeps easier to enter. I’m always looking for more information and it’s fun to see how everyone goes about the task of entering sweeps daily, differently. I’m sure your book will be a great read.
Leaving for Orlando in a couple weeks for my second trip of the year. Nice, but sure wish I could win a cash or vehicle sweep.
I enjoyed listening to your interview with Mr Sweepy (the sweepster rocks!) and receiving your email updates.
September 13th, 2008 at 3:51 pm
Thank you for yet another contest for me to enter in the great big web world

September 13th, 2008 at 5:16 pm

I truly believe in the concept behind You Can’t Win If You Don’t Enter. I myself enter numerous contests and, when asked to blog, often surprise myself at my own ability to assess items and comment on their intrinsic worth!
September 13th, 2008 at 6:56 pm
I love sweeping, I love books, I would love to win this!
September 13th, 2008 at 7:01 pm

I have recently started sweeping…my mother subscribed to the old-school newsletters and mail-ins back in the 80s. It would be very nice to have this book and then to let my husband read it so that he can understand the process and why I haven’t won a million dollars in 3 months!!! LOL - he just doesn’t understand the odds.

I’ve been sweeping for many years, and am highly interested to read another sweeper’s point of view, and possibly learn what I could do differently and what I am doing wrong.

Thanks for the contest. Sweeping is the best hobby there is. I’ll have to pick up a copy of the book even if I don’t win it.

Sweepstaking is a healthy, time filling, and sometimes rewarding hobby. If you have an addictive personality, this is the way to go. IT COSTS NOTHING BUT YOUR TIME.
I would love to win this book! salvietwo222

You can’t win if you don’t enter is my motto. So I should probably read the book of the same name.

When I’m selected as the first winner of your blog contest, my plan is to give my prize to another sweeper and make them aware of your great book and site.

Just like the title says, you can’t win if you don’t enter. The key to winning is entering and entering often.

I was wondering if your book comes in audio also

Looks like you’ve got a successful blog promotion going on here. Proves that promos do work. You’ll have to tell me the final results. - Donna

I’d like this, our long days are coming where being outdoors is not as appealing as staying indoors with a good book.

As I bow to the Contest Queen— I dream of the big win. A car, vacation, appliance — but i definitely enjoy the thrill of the small wins like promo items, music downloads, or gift cards. This book might be just what I need to go from a wannabe to a princess— and someday a QUEEEEEEEN! (lol) Thanks for your experiences!

There should be more books like yours available. Who wouldn’t want to be a “professional” sweeper?
