I have been meaning to write this post for months.  I always preach that one should thank the sponsor publicly when one wins a prize.  I know on occasion I have been tardy with my gratitude, but I always give it.  After a long wait, as this one felt like a dilemma to me, I decided I finally had to blog.

Today’s Draw (@Todays_Draw) came onto the contest scene in 2011.  Their daily contests are open to Canada (excluding Quebec) and the United States (excluding Hawaii and Puerto Rico).  They post one prize and one winner each day.  If you see your name on their website, you have 24 hours to claim your prize.  (From a marketing perspective, this is brilliant.)  Originally their rules stated that prizes would be shipped out within 2-4 weeks.

I won a $150 Marriott Gift Card last March.  (I am not 100% sure when I won as it was so long ago.)  I claimed my prize and waited … and waited … and waited.  I then began to get emails from contest buddies who were also waiting for their prize.  The comments posts on Today’s Draw Facebook page weren’t pretty.  I stopped entering on their site even though their rules stated I could win more than once.

Five months after I won, I finally received my prize in the mail with the following letter.

the letter that came with my prize

They wanted me to email mail them back stating I received their prize.  I was frustrated that the letter stated I was doing so as outlined in their terms and conditions, yet they didn’t keep up their end of the bargain, so I didn’t respond.

If you have been following me for any length of time, you will know that my life has been in a bit of flux the past three years (Part 1 & Part 2).  I lost the letter on my desk.  As part of cleaning house at the beginning of this year, I decided to tie up loose ends.

When I began writing this blog post, I went back to reread their rules.  I noticed they changed their delivery clause to read: 9. Prizes are mailed out as soon as possible. Prizes can take anywhere between 8 – 10 weeks to be delivered.  After reading a few current comments posted on their Facebook wall, it still seems they take far longer than 10 weeks to deliver a prize, but at least they deliver.

As a marketer, I am torn.  I believe they are ruining their brand by not following their own rules and I wonder why they have continued to do so for such a long period of time.  Having worked at a large advertising agency I can understand it is not always easy to make the behind-the-scenes run as smoothly as one would like.

I wish them the best of luck and all the success in the contest management business as I know how hard it can be.  This post is my official THANK YOU to Today’s Draw for the prize and their patience in my response.  (Tit for tat??)

Have you won from Today’s Draw?  What has your experience been?
