The standard format of social media apps such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram is to show posts to those that follow their account. Even at that, they only show the posts to a fraction of their followers. If a post gets engagement (likes, comments, and shares) the app shows the post to more people, organically. However, companies are encouraged to pay to have those posts seen. One way to encourage organic engagement is to host a contest.

What makes TikTok different is it will show your post to your followers, and to those that it thinks would like your content. Occasionally, a video can go viral as it begins to appear on more and more people’s feeds. That feature also makes it harder to find TikTok sweepstakes.

Here is how to find giveaways on TikTok:

  1. Follow accounts that have contests on other social media platforms.
  2. Follow your sweepstakes buddies on TikTok so you can tag each other.
  3. Check trending hashtags to see if there is a giveaway attached to them.
  4. Follow me on Twitter as I share any TikTok contests I find there.

Why Twitter?

I initially began sharing giveaways I found on TikTok on my feed, but …

  1. It began to may my account look cluttered.
  2. They weren’t reaching my normal followers based on the nature of the algorithm.

Now I share any TikTok giveaways I find on my Twitter feed as it makes it easier to find them. @ContestQueen

Two Types of TikTok Giveaways

The first is the standard LIKE, COMMENT & FOLLOW. It’s the same on TikTok as it is on Facebook, Twitter, and especially Instagram. You know what to do. Feel free to tag me if you need a friend. @ContestQueen

The second is Consumer Generated Media (CGM). The sponsor asks you to become creative. Submit a video following their directions. Some are easy, some are silly. The key is you have to be comfortable in front of the camera and not afraid to be yourself. You don’t have to be perfect or even the best camera person. You just need to be enthusiastic, passionate and look like you are having a great time. Authenticity is your friend. (So is a good camera stand. I have a small tripod with an adjustable phone grip.)
