What is super silly is, it was my giveaway! (It could have been worse. It could’ve been a client’s!!)

Clare left a comment on my blog post: I wasn’t able to re-tweet every day. Is there a way to do that?

I emailed back: Can you clarify? Are you trying to RT the same tweet each day?

Clare: Yes. That’s what I was trying to do. I looked briefly for a new tweet to retweet each day and didn’t find one. Maybe I missed it?

Me: Do you know what contest it was/is? Who the sponsor is? I will go look. Yes, you can only RT one time from each tweet, so if they are not posting every day, you can only enter once.

Clare: It was for your Twitter McDonald’s gift card contest. LOL! 🙂

And that’s when I felt foolish…

Still shaking my head as I write this blog post. I can’t believe I did it …

How could I muck up my own contest? The answer is easy. I am human. I am messy. I am flawesome. I am juggling many balls (daughter, clients, divorce, etc.), and sometimes one drops. (It’s the reason why, when a sponsor makes a contest error, ask nicely, as they are human too. You don’t know what else is going on in their lives that they dropped a ball.)

What did I do wrong? Simple. I forgot to schedule a daily contest tweet for the duration of the contest. It would have been easy, too, as I use Hootsuite.

THE ORIGINAL CONTEST TWEET

You can’t retweet a tweet more than once, and copying and pasting the text into a new tweet doesn’t show as a retweet. Therefore, you wouldn’t be in the drawing.

To make up for my mess, I am going to hold another Twitter contest. Not sharing a prize I won. Out of my own pocket. Your choice.

What company would you like to win a $25 gift card for?

Post a comment below; later this week, I will run another Twitter giveaway properly! <UGH!>

NOTE: This one will replace the one I messed up in Canada. If you are in the U.S., post your preferences too. Next month, I’ll host one for you when I can buy a gift card in USD.
